The Recovering: Intoxication And Its Aftermath
Since I was a child, my parents have been instrumental in cultivating my love for reading. It all began with a simple rule: if my sister and I wanted TV or computer time, we had to spend time reading first. Little did I know, this would lay the foundation for a lifelong passion.
As I grew, so did my relationship with literature. What began as a way to earn screen time, with books like Geronimo Stilton and The Magic Treehouse, transformed into something much deeper—a genuine appreciation for literature. During my freshman year of college, in a general education English class, I discovered Joan Didion’s Play It As It Lays and fell in love. This experience ultimately led me to decide to minor in English, as I came to understand the impact literature had on me. My academic pursuits in English exemplify literature's impact on one’s life. It is a fundamental part of who I am and has shaped my worldview, fostering a unique perspective through my interests and experiences.
